Tissue Culture Staurogyne repens

Staurogyne repens is a compact and versatile foreground plant that has become a firm favourite in the aquascaping hobby. Native to the Rio Cristalino in Brazil, it produces dense, low-growing mats of small, bright green leaves that hug the substrate beautifully. Its tidy, bushy growth habit and tolerance of a wide range of conditions make it one of the most reliable carpeting and foreground plants available, suitable for both low-tech and high-tech setups.

Tips for Success

Plant individual stems or small clumps spaced 1–2 cm apart directly into the substrate. Staurogyne repens spreads via side shoots and runners, gradually filling in to form a lush, dense foreground. Regular trimming encourages compact, bushy growth and prevents it from becoming leggy. It performs well under medium light without CO₂, but will grow faster and more compactly with CO₂ injection and good fertilisation.
