Tissue Culture Rotala wallichii

Rotala wallichii is one of the most delicate and visually striking stem plants in the aquascaping hobby. Its fine, needle-like whorled leaves create a soft, feathery texture that sways gently in the current, adding a sense of movement and elegance to any planted aquarium. Under high lighting and CO₂, the tips develop beautiful pink to deep red colouration, making it a stunning accent plant in the midground or background of a Nature Aquarium layout.

Tips for Success

Rotala wallichii is best grown in groups of 5–10 stems for maximum visual impact. It prefers soft, slightly acidic water and benefits greatly from CO₂ injection and high lighting to achieve its signature pink-red colouration. Supplement with a comprehensive fertiliser including iron and micronutrients. Trim regularly and replant tops to encourage bushy, dense growth. It can be sensitive to hard water and large parameter swings, so stable conditions are key to keeping it looking its best.
