Type

Micranthemum tweediei 'Monte Carlo' is one of the most popular and sought-after carpeting plants in the modern aquascaping hobby. Native to Argentina, it produces a lush, dense carpet of small, round, bright green leaves that create a beautifully soft and natural-looking foreground. Unlike its demanding cousin Hemianthus callitrichoides 'Cuba', Monte Carlo is significantly more forgiving and adaptable, making it an excellent choice for aquascapers who want a stunning carpet without the extreme demands of a high-tech setup.

Why Tissue Culture?

Our tissue culture plants are grown in sterile laboratory conditions, meaning they arrive:

  • Free from pesticides and harmful chemicals
  • Free from snails, planarians, and pest algae
  • Free from pathogens and parasites
  • No rock wool to remove — just rinse and plant

Tips for Success

Divide the tissue culture portion into small clumps and plant them 1–2 cm apart directly into a fine, nutrient-rich substrate. Monte Carlo spreads via runners and will gradually knit together into a lush, seamless carpet. Medium to high lighting and CO₂ injection will produce the fastest, most compact growth, though it can carpet under lower-tech conditions with patience. Regular water changes and a balanced fertiliser regime will keep the carpet vibrant and healthy. One of the most rewarding foreground plants available — the finished result is truly spectacular.
