Lilaeopsis novaezelandiae, commonly known as New Zealand Glasswort or Micro Sword, is a popular and attractive foreground plant that forms a dense, low-growing lawn of narrow, bright green blades. Native to New Zealand and Australia, it's a great alternative to other carpeting plants and works beautifully in both Nature Aquarium and natural-style aquascapes. Its fine, grass-like texture creates a lush, meadow-like effect that complements rocks, driftwood, and hardscape beautifully.

Why Tissue Culture?

Our tissue culture plants are grown in sterile laboratory conditions, meaning they arrive:

  • Free from pesticides and harmful chemicals
  • Free from snails, planarians, and pest algae
  • Free from pathogens and parasites
  • No rock wool to remove — just rinse and plant

Tips for Success

Plant in small clumps spaced 1–2 cm apart directly into a nutrient-rich substrate. Medium to high lighting and CO₂ injection will significantly speed up spreading and help achieve a dense carpet. Lilaeopsis spreads via runners and is slower to establish than some other carpeting plants, so patience is key. Regular trimming keeps the carpet neat and encourages lateral growth.
