Type

Glossostigma elatinoides is one of the smallest and most iconic carpeting plants in the aquascaping world. Native to Australia and New Zealand, it forms a stunning, dense, bright green carpet of tiny, tongue-shaped leaves that hugs the substrate closely, creating a lush lawn effect that is a hallmark of the Nature Aquarium style. Popularised by Takashi Amano, it remains one of the most desirable foreground plants for high-tech planted aquariums.

Why Tissue Culture?

Our tissue culture plants are grown in sterile laboratory conditions, meaning they arrive:

  • Free from pesticides and harmful chemicals
  • Free from snails, planarians, and pest algae
  • Free from pathogens and parasites
  • No rock wool to remove — just rinse and plant

Tips for Success

Glossostigma elatinoides demands high lighting and CO₂ injection to carpet properly — without these it will grow upward rather than spreading horizontally. Plant in very small clumps spaced 1–2 cm apart in a fine, nutrient-rich substrate. It spreads via runners and will fill in quickly under optimal conditions. Soft, slightly acidic water and a comprehensive fertiliser regime will produce the best results. This is a plant that truly rewards a well-tuned, high-tech setup.
