Plagiomnium sp. 'Terrarium Moss'

Plagiomnium sp. is a beautiful terrestrial and semi-aquatic moss widely used in paludariums, terrariums, and the emersed zones of aquascapes. Its broad, rounded, bright green leaves have a distinctive, almost lettuce-like texture that creates a lush, natural carpet effect on moist substrate, rocks, and driftwood. It is one of the most visually appealing mosses for above-water applications and adds a wonderfully verdant, forest-floor feel to any vivarium or paludarium setup.

Tips for Success

Plagiomnium sp. thrives in high humidity with indirect lighting — avoid direct sunlight which can dry it out and cause browning. Keep the substrate or attachment surface consistently moist but not waterlogged. It attaches readily to rocks, driftwood, and moist soil, spreading slowly to form a dense, velvety mat. Mist regularly in terrarium or paludarium setups to maintain humidity. An excellent choice for creating a naturalistic, mossy forest floor aesthetic in any vivarium.
